CPH WEB FEST 2019
From the 19th-22nd September 2019, the 2nd edition of the CPH Web Fest took place at KU Søndre Campus and Husets Biograf. The festival was sponsored by UCPH’s Innovation & Entrepreneurship student fund.

While in the first year we focused on introducing the Danish film industry to the medium of webseries and its potentials when it comes to diversity and freedom, this year’s focus was on where this could take filmmakers and what sort of opportunities webseries can pose for filmmakers, producers and communities.
Throughout the four days we hosted workshops, masterclasses, screenings, our first ever pitch day and the award ceremony.
Pitch-traning and student movie screening
Friday was devoted to preparing for Pitch Day: all our pitch presenters got a workshop with pitch coach Helene Granqvist who gave excellent feedback and practice for all of our presenters. It was also an opportunity for them to build a community and support each other in the lead-up to the big day on Saturday. We finished the day with the KU-student screening at Husets Biograf, which proved also to be highly rewarding as students got a chance to show their work on the big screen.
The Danish film industry is looking for underground talent
Saturday was definitely a highlight of the festival with the industry Pitch Day: our 14 candidates got the chance to present their projects to a jury of 7 representatives from the Danish film industry (DR, TV2, Danish Film Institute and 4 independent producers).
Without exception, we were impressed by the uniqueness and courage of each pitch, and by the support the candidates where given by the jury and their follow presenters. What stood out in conversations and interviews was that there is a huge need and desire in the Danish film industry to give voice to younger and ‘underground’ talent, which the Danish broadcasters and the DFI still fail to attract. This allows us to really take on a significant role with respect to the future which we truly want to embrace.
The grand award show
Our last day on Sunday was a day of screenings at the beautiful and cozy Husets Biograf: we treated our guests to our official selection of documentary and pilot sections, the international and Danish webseries category and our special screening and Q&A of ZYARA.
Our award ceremony in the evening was a grand conclusion of the four days. It showed how much dedication, passion and love the filmmakers bring to their projects and even though we awarded one project in each category, it became clear that every single person in the room was a winner that night: for being brave and genuine storytellers that we dearly need to celebrate more.
All in all, it has been fantastic to see our festival grow from our first edition in 2018 to becoming a connecting player in the Nordic film industry. And hearing that people are looking forward to the third edition in 2020 is the biggest motivation to make next year even more excited and rooted.
